The return to action for the Revs in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup came Tuesday night against local “rival” Hartford Athletic—the first time these sides have met in an official match. It was far from pretty, but the Revs ended up on the right side of a 2-1 decision to advance against their USL opponents.

When it comes time for the MLS Cup Playoffs, the only thing that’s going to matter for the New England Revolution is the number of points on the board. Saturday night, then, was a great night for adding points to the board. Forget for a minute that the second half nearly went down as the most forgettable of the season so far—when the final whistle blew, the Revs held a 2-1 decision in their hands against a Sporting Kansas City side that, albeit reeling, is still a club with great heritage. It was too good to be true when Andrew Farrell wasn’t called for a penalty as the clock ticked into stoppage time during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with the Columbus Crew. Farrell’s arm definitely made contact with the ball, and in the reverse situation I would have been hootin’ and hollerin’ at my computer screen (let the wife take the TV for the night) about how robbed we were.
