New England at Orlando, Match 32: Not good, Bob!

There are times when I question why I keep a game on, and parts of the first half had me questioning my sanity last night. But, dare I say, the second half continued to give me a false sense of hope that maybe, somehow, despite the odds stacked against ’em, these Revs might still make a run at something.

Delusional, I know, but it is amazing to me that when we play in a formation suited to the roster, we look better. Switching to that 3-5-2/5-3-2 gave us something last night, and we took it to one of the better teams in the league (albeit when they might have come slightly off the gas). Or maybe I am just delusional.

New England vs. Charlotte, Match 30: A reprieve or a restart?

For the first time in a month, the New England Revolution won a match. And, man, was that needed. For the boys, of course—but also for me. And the rest of the fandom, and anyone else that gives 2 hoots about this club.

Was it perfect? Far from it. Was it pretty? Nah. But did it count as three points? YES.

New England at (vs.) Atletico de San Luis, Leagues Cup match 2: Revs meet the moment

And to think I went into last night in a pessimistic mood. Hosting (OK we were the away team but let’s be real) a Liga MX side coming off that embarrassment at NYRB at the weekend, I worried that the Revs might fold and decide a month’s vacation would be better than a chance to play elimination soccer. Instead, New England showcased how lethal the attack can be when clicking, and the defense held it together and allowed Djordje Petrovic to do his thing in goal. The result was a beautiful 5-1 decision that secured passage to the Leagues Cup Round of 32.

New England vs. Inter Miami, Match 17: Three points again, finally!

So it’s really funny, I had to work Saturday night so I missed almost the entire game live and instead followed via (hashtag)NERevs. I kid you not, I finally got the game on and witnessed this Farrell masterclass within the first 30 seconds. Soccer gods punish me for not watching!

But three points is three points, and with three goals scored before the penalty was given—I laughed when it happened because it was so absurd to witness—the Revs put a halt to a league winless streak that started back on May 13 against this hapless Inter Miami side.

New England at Toronto FC, Matchweek 11: Winning the Italian campaign up North

The makeup of this game screamed “trap game” from the start, but credit where credit is due: New England was having no part in being tripped up. On the road for the first time in what feels like forever, the Revs got luck to be on their side in the first half, then rode a stellar defensive performance home for the three points. Being in first place feels GREAT.
