Hey the MLS remembered midweek games! Hooray! But no Revs!? Boo! With a chance to put the MLS+ subscription to work I chose…the free Union/DC United game. BUT a chance to scout the Revs’ next opponents and see more of a Wayne Rooney-led team as the reality continues to exist where he makes a spectacular homecoming to the real United and delivers us to the heights of Sir Alex—OK I’ll stop now.

Hard to judge Philly a ton with them not at full strength—combination of injuries, midweek subs, and disciplinary issues—but these are two Eastern Conference rivals both with each other and with New England, so a game well worth watching. Oh, and Christian Benteke is still a bad MOFO even if age is starting to factor in with him. DC kicked Philly’s ass in the first half and I started writing this with the second half going, I don’t think we’re getting a goal here.
- Refereeing continues to be a flashpoint in this league and this game was no different. Ref was way too lenient in letting contact go, and then he would call random touch fouls. Suppose I like a ref that lets more things go as opposed to calling everything, though.
- Very early on in the game, the on-field mic picked up some girl absolutely screeching, and no one in the truck bothered to try and cut it out. Felt amazing on my eardrums.
- Speaking of, as I started writing the on-field mic picked up a convo on the field, and a player said “that’s the same shit he always does.” Keep the mic loud.
- I’ve never heard of this kid until tonight but I will now start paying attention to Teddy Ku-DiPietro. Kid looked good tonight—slick on the ball, willing to get forward and take dudes on, and could have made the ultimate difference if a few balls bounced a few different ways. I like some of this young talent in the MLS.
- Carranza and the ref didn’t get along tonight.
- Ale Bedoya still playing is just funny because he’s a captain that plays and Jozy Altidore is three years younger (33 vs. 36) and is on the bench. Oh, and Bedoya is paid 1/3 less—although you have to acknowledge that the Revs don’t pay all of Jozy’s salary since he was bought out by Toronto or whatever happens in MLS contract world. Remember you can find all MLS player salary info on the MLSPA website.
- Just fifth point for DC from Philly in last how many meetings? Did he say 14? Wild. Philadelphia lucky to get the point, too, DC easily could have gotten all three. Point each is about what each team deserved, though.
- FC Cincinnati top of the East now 😦
- Atlanta thumped Colorado. Not surprising they won, but putting up three goals late is a good reminder of how dangerous they are.
- Was hoping Orlando would take all 3—NYCFC gets the late-goal New York luck his week.
- There has to be major concerns in Toronto that the front three of Bernardeschi, CJ Sapong, and Lorenzo Insigne couldn’t score against a NYRB team missing as many players as it was, right?
- If the Revs could have not started like shit last week, they easily could have beaten Inter Miami. Still disappointing the Revs didn’t get a point from what that game turned out to be, and that we didn’t get all 3 by showing up from the first whistle.
- Didn’t see a goal, but Jesus Ferreira keeps scoring and any fan of the USMNT should want to see it. Yeah, Florian Balogun has pledged his allegiance to the RW&B, but there’s no guarantee he’s going to be that guy—or that these two couldn’t find a way to play off of each other. He’s had a “link” to Napoli recently, but while a move to a team of Napoli’s caliber might be a better rumor than actual news tip, a move abroad for Ferreira seems like a likely outcome.
