Two things can be simultaneously true from last night: The boys did great to find their mettle not once, but twice to bring this game level—and they shouldn’t have put themselves in both of those situations to begin with. As much as this was a point gained back from a losing position, it also felt like two points tossed away against a bottom-feeding Chicago Fire team. It’s clear that the Revs are battling injuries and that a fully firing squad is going to be a problem, but there’s also an issue with a lack of desire at the start of games from the team recently, and it burned us once again.

Manchester United vs. Chelsea, Matchweek 37: The Chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaampions
‘Nuff said. Chelsea actual relegation material right now, saved by the end of a season.
Give us Mount on the low, Todd. Do it.
New England at Philadelphia, Gameweek 14: Wait, I thought 2022 was last year
Erm, excuse me, what in the actual fuck??? I thought we were good this year!? OK so I think the Revs still are but this has NOT been a fun stretch of games lately. Knocked out of the U.S. Open Cup and licking the wounds from an unnecessary loss to Miami, a trip to Subaru Park to face the Union was JUST what we needed. Only, everything was going fine—until it wasn’t. A 3-0 loss and several injuries later, this was about as shitty a trip to Philadelphia as imaginable.

Phil Jones is one of my favorite Manchester United players. There, I said it. He isn’t a club legend. We never saw the best he had to offer. He is infamously linked with the “Chuckle Brothers” moniker with Chris “Mike” Smalling. But I really liked him. Something about his potential, about the aura of what could have been that came when Sir Alex dared compare him to Duncan Edwards.

Hey the MLS remembered midweek games! Hooray! But no Revs!? Boo! With a chance to put the MLS+ subscription to work I chose…the free Union/DC United game. BUT a chance to scout the Revs’ next opponents and see more of a Wayne Rooney-led team as the reality continues to exist where he makes a spectacular homecoming to the real United and delivers us to the heights of Sir Alex—OK I’ll stop now.

New England at Inter Miami, Matchweek 12: Them’s the breaks sometimes
A loss to Inter Miami was never going to be easy to stomach, but last night’s 2-1 defeat left a particularly sour taste in this writer’s mouth because so much of this game was out of the Revs’ control, and instead was left to odd, erratic twists of fate. Without even getting into the officiating and how VAR was implemented, a lot of this game can be summed up by saying Miami put one rocket, off-target shot into the box 7 minutes in, and it caromed off Dave Romney and into the net. In the second half, the Revs pinged two balls off of Dixon Arroyo (at least I think it was him both times) inside his own six and the ball ricocheted away from the net. Sometimes, them’s just the breaks.

Slightly late but I can do what I want here. Needed some time to digest the brutalness of that 1-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in “We *don’t* want the Cup!” play. Won’t take long with this one but there are some takeaways.

Few tidbits. We’re shit, eh? 1-0 loss to a bottom-half team. Puke.

The makeup of this game screamed “trap game” from the start, but credit where credit is due: New England was having no part in being tripped up. On the road for the first time in what feels like forever, the Revs got luck to be on their side in the first half, then rode a stellar defensive performance home for the three points. Being in first place feels GREAT.
